Bad experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I received a call through "Legacy" which prompted me to enter my credit card #. After i entered my info, they said you may start your conversation.

The call was dropped. I checked my card balance and seen they took out $27.79. When i contacted "Legacy", they told me i still owed them $3.21. Don't call them to resolve your issues; they WON'T help.

Call your banking institution. "LEGACY IS THE WORST.

Charged me $27 for a 1 minute call. No notice of charges beforehand.

Make your complaint to the Dept. of Consumer Affairs and the State District Attorney's Office.

Dispute the bill with your credit card company. Put signs on coin phones telling people about this company's bad behavior.

Unbelievable Call Charges

We were stranded in a 'no cell coverage zone' and had to use the pay phones to make two important calls lasting no longer than 5 minutes each. The pay phones themselves have a cost of $2.00 per minute on them for long distance.

Then there was this handy sticker that said, "Use your credit card!" Well we had zero quarters so we used our credit card. When we received the bill for over $30 per call we were shocked. I called Legacy and their rep said that I could have pushed the button to hear the rates. Yeah, we had an emergency and needed to call our family in an area without cell coverage.

That wasn't top of mind. I hope others learn from our mistakes. This company monetarily rapes you while you are at your time of need. Who even uses a payphone unless you are vulnerable.

This company is taking advantage. I wish I had taken a picture of the pay phone sticker. It seemed like such a reasonable offer. No quarters?

Just use your credit card. What a scam!

Rip Off

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I accepted a collect call which lasted about five minutes, and I was charged $41.98. I had assumed it was through AT&T.

I tried contacting the company at 2:00 p.m. on January 3, 2018 and no one answered. I figure their attitude towards their target customer, the inmate population, has generalized to the public at large. They have been successful in ripping off inmates who have few other options than to use their services.

The “operator” who handeled the call barely met the basic standards of civility.

In fact, before I was able to speak to my husband, I thought he might actually be calling from a jail. Their prices are conspicuously out of line, and they should be required to disclose them.

I signed up for LEGACY Inmate Communications tonight.I was happy. The first three to four calls went through on MY DIME/MONIES/PLENTIFUL enough for each per call.My loved one(doin' six months in KANE COUNTY JAIL in ILLINOIS, tried to call back, 1 hr.later.He was not able to get through, yet the first several calls, all went through.

I do not get this and i work in law, and i will follow up and get to the bottom of this, legally-speaking because it's not right. Why would a block go up?I have funds on there, plenty, so it should be no issue.

I will see what is going on in the morning and update all here this week.RATES ARE WAY TOO HIGH. I hope people FIGHT for what is right i.e., lower rates and i am sure you will win as case law wholly support wins NJ NYC IL,CALIFORNIA,NC,all over against AT&T, to MCI, GLOBAL TEL LINK DROP RATES and you're even able to only put 1.00 on for a few min.talk at least to hear a loved one's hi, and bye or i love you or i am thinking about you,and i hope all will fight for lower rates against legacy.

Their target customer is not the inmate, but the counties who contract with them to provide telephone service to their jails. As you said, the inmate has no choice but to use the service offered in the jail.

They give counties a great kickback, so their market model is solid. It’s the counties who are taking inmates (75% of whom are poor) for everything they have.

THIS COMPANY IS A FRAUD, RIP-OFF & UNPROFESSIONAL.

I am disputing a 5 min phone call that costs $30. They do not state how much a call will be, and customer service is rude and told me that they deal with complaints all the time, and there you go, that says it all. Period.

Call to Husband's cell, not an inmate.

Made two calls to my husband's cell using my debit card as I did not have .75 cents to make a call outside the 619 (San Diego) area code. Checked my account and surprised to see the outrageous charges and that the company Legacy Inmate Communications is for inmates. WTH!

Received collect call

Updated by user Oct 30, 2017

I called today and spoke with a customer service rep and all they could do for me is a 15 dollar credit to my card. They tried saying I was given a option to review rates before excepting which was an absolute lie!

I hope nobody ever has to accept a collect call from someone in emergency because this company is money hungry and only wants money!!!!! They take advantage of hard working people who are in a sucky situation....

Let's see if they really credit anything to my account. I work hard for my money and was really just raked over coals....

I recieved a collect call early this morning, as my other half was traveling to Pa from Fl and phone was not working. Told me had to put credit card in to accept so I did. Was never explained charges or anything of the sort. Check account amd they took out 61.00 out of my account for about a 10 min. Conversation. This is ridiculous. I will be calling on Monday as the customer service 24 hr help could do nothing. They really need to inform people what they are charging...

I accepted a collect call from my husband who was at the airport and didn’t have change. We talked for about five minutes.

My bank put a hold on my account for suspicious activity because of the charge of $41.98. And we used to complain about Ma Bell!

RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED CALL

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Had a friend in rehab and received a call from them.. talked for maybe 8 minutes and was charged $35 dollars.. was not informed of any such pricing upon receiving the call or anything of the sort. There was not even any such message as to tell me that we pay or accept at our own risk. You can be sure that I will be disputing this 100% because that is a gross and crooked way to conduct business. No one should be charged such outrageous pricing to offer support to a loved one in need. Be sure and offer your complaints to customer service because they deserve to know about it and to have that money refunded by a lot.

Call from Airport to Local US number charged $14.81

I have used a booth phone at Chicago International Airport to call my family, There was a sign of 50 cents per minutes but since I was not carrying the coins, I used my credit card. And what 14.81 USD for a minute call I was been charged.

It's too expensive and when I called customer care they said it's a correct charge. I don't know how that can be correct. Isn't so expensive call and that too a local number not any international call. Why places like airport they have such highly expensive services without letting people know and where international people fly from all around the world who don't have much idea if they are going to charge so much.

Don't know how can I get my refund.

Any help here much appreciated. Thanks

Outrageous prices for collect calls

Legacy has no disclosure process so that the person that is being billed knows upfront what the charges will be.....and as a result has no chance to refuse the call for excessive charges. GTL Connect explains in detail what the charges are and then gives you the opportunity to refuse the call. When I saw the charges on my visa from Legacy I was shocked. They are outrageous and need to be reported to the FCC!

Charged $198

So I got arrested because failure to go to court. So I got arrested on Friday and was released the upcoming Tuesday morning.

I finished my case, however while I was arrested I call to make sure my kids were taken care off. I saw with my eyes and my watch someone put 50 cents and talk on the phone for 15 mins. So I placed the calls using my card thinking it was only 50 cents. When I got out I saw they charged me $198.

Keep in mind my phone bill is $398 a month. I’m beyond pissed.

I’m working with my bank to get the charges reversed. I appreciate the reviews for a second I thought I was going crazy until everyone showed there frustration in different scenario

Legalized Thievery

Like everyone else on this website I was ripped off by Legacy Inmate Communications. While staying at a resort in a very small town in the Sierra Mountains of California, there was no cell coverage and I was forced to use the hotel's payphone. Later I received a bill for over $50 for a 15-minute call. When I saw the words "Legacy Inmate" on the charge, I had no idea it was a phone company. In a panic, I cancelled my credit card because I thought some criminals had gotten my care number. After about 4 hours of misery on the phone, Legacy gave me a "courtesy discount" of $17.
